Particip GmbH Awarded USD 280,650 UNDP Contract for Multi-Hazard River Basin Risk Management in Georgia

Georgia -24 september 2025,

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) has awarded Particip GmbH a USD 280,650 contract for the development of multi-hazard river basin risk management plans in an effort to improve Georgia's resilience to disasters and water resources. The agreement, which was signed on September 24, 2025, will concentrate on creating frameworks for integrated risk management for important river basins in the country's east.

Overview of the Project
Particip GmbH will create and carry out multi-hazard risk management plans for the Mtkvari, Alazani, Iori, and Khrami-Ktsia river basins in accordance with the contract (Ref No: 10445643/UNDP-GEO-00299,1). These plans will help local authorities implement data-driven, preventive strategies and address a variety of natural hazards, including droughts, landslides, and floods.

In line with national and regional frameworks for disaster risk reduction and water governance, the project is a component of UNDP Georgia's larger commitment to advancing sustainable development and climate resilience.

Specifics of the contract
  • Value of Contract: $280,650 USD

  • Contracting Authority: Georgia's United Nations Development Programme (UNDP)

  • Vendor: Particip GmbH

  • Method of Procurement: Request for Proposals (RFP) from UNDP

  • Date of Agreement: September 24, 2025

Regarding Particip GmbH
Particip GmbH is a global consulting firm with its headquarters in Germany that focusses on environmental management, governance, and sustainable development. Particip offers technical expertise in risk assessment, hydrological modelling, and climate adaptation planning, and has a solid portfolio of projects funded by the UN and EU. Its involvement in Georgia is indicative of its continuous cooperation with international organisations to improve the region's ability to withstand natural disasters.

Relevance to the Project
Georgia's biodiversity, energy production, and agricultural output all depend on its river basins. However, the effects of climate change, such as increased flooding and seasonal droughts, are making them more susceptible. In order to lower socioeconomic losses and increase the effectiveness of water management, the new risk management plans will offer an integrated approach to hazard monitoring, early warning systems, and community readiness.

To sum up
A significant step towards enhancing multi-hazard resilience in Georgia's vital river systems has been taken with the award of this contract to Particip GmbH.  The project is anticipated to produce practical strategies for sustainable water governance and climate adaptation by fusing scientific analysis with participatory planning, which will benefit both local communities and national policymakers.
